The sculpture representing Ali Betchine and his wife Lallahom Belkadi, Princess of Koukou, tells the story of the young Italian slave, captured in the sixteenth century in Tuscany, who was adopted in Algiers, converted to Islam, and soon became a major figure in Algeria’s history.
