Mosul welcomes its first Arab Oud House

Arab Oud House is an initiative of Iraqi lutenist Nasseer Shamma, which was launched in 1998. This large-scale project is a musical training and learning space which exists in Cairo, Baghdad, Khartoum, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, and Tunis.

Today, a new Arab Oud House is inaugurated in Mosul, with the primary aim of inspiring Iraqi youth and bringing happiness.

Some of the institution's goals

  • To spread the culture and raise awareness of the importance of the Oud and other Arab musical instruments.
  • To emphasize the importance of the instruments: oud, flute, bezek, cello, violin, Arabic singing and rababa as an integral part of Arab music and its schools.
  • To develop teaching techniques for the above-mentioned musical instruments, and other oriental musical instruments.
  • To train a new generation of professional musicians and the formation of an Arab music band;
  • To teach the making of musical instruments of different sizes.
  • To foster research on oud and Arab musical instruments in general.

Nasseer Shamma is a master of the oud, a UNESCO ambassador for peace, working also with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
