This 41st edition of the festival takes place every year in the month of Bahman (January-February) in Tehran, simultaneously with the Fajr International Music Festival and the Fajr International Film Festival. 21 troupes were expected for the 2023 edition, including some international companies from Oman, Iraq, Armenia, Tunisia and Jordan. 37 theater plays will be staged in the "Iranian Grand Competition" section, 35 in the "Street Theatre" section, 23 in the "International" section including 12 Iranian theater plays and 11 foreign theater plays. The festival ends on 31 January, and will be followed by the Fajr International Film Festival, also organised by the state, which is severely disrupted by the ongoing revolution. Iranian actors and directors have already said that they will boycott the cultural event.
