"El Flouka" wins the Chahid Hassan-Belkired Award

The play "El Flouka" (The Boat) directed by Ahmed Aggoune was awarded the Chahid Hassan Belkired Award of the Arab Theatre Days organised in Setif from 18 to 21 February. The theme of the artistic event was "Setif, Mecca of art and artists". It was organised by the Association for Arts and Creativity. A total of six troupes participated in the event, coming from Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Jordan and Western Sahara. Palestine was the guest of honour of this edition, which was named after Algerian artistic figure Hassan Belkired.

"El Flouka" is a black comedy about illegal emigration. It was presented at the National Festival of Professional Theatre in December 2022 in Algiers. Written by Seifeddine Bouha, the play was chosen by the jury as the overall winner of the competition. The play also won the prize for best text.

The other prizes:

  • The prize for best male performance went to Ilyès Labidi for his role in "Mamalkat al Ichk" (The Kingdom of Passion) by Lotfi Al-Akramire. The play also won the prize for best scenography.
  • The prize for best female performance went to Sabrina Korichi for her role in "El Flouka" and the prize for best scenography was awarded to the play "Mamlaket El Ishk".
