"Pilgrimage to Mecca" is restored

The film is one of two rare works by Saudi photographer Safouh Naamani that have been restored by the Red Sea International Film Festival and was scheduled to premiere at the inaugural edition, postponed due to the pandemic. It will be screened as part of the Islamic Arts Biennale on Friday 7 April at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.

Photographer Safouh Naamani (1926-2016) was one of the pioneers of colour photography in Saudi Arabia. This documentary was made in 1963 and focuses on the pilgrimage route to Mecca.
