Several cultural establishments have planned various activities to highlight the cultural, historical and social dimension of the celebration of the Amazigh New Year (Yennayer) 2973, taking place on January 12.
Film screenings, theatre plays, craft exhibitions, conferences on Amazigh culture and language, etc. Several Amazigh artists will also take centre stage, such as Aghilès Issiakhem at the Algerian Agency for Cultural Outreach from 12 to 17 January.
Some events to keep in mind:
- The Mohamed-Racim and Mohamed-Temmam galleries will host plastic arts exhibitions until 15 January;
- The National Office of Culture and Information has programmed at the Atlas Hall a theatrical performance entitled "Yennayer and the old mad woman" by director Miloud Hadj Said;
- The Palace of Culture Moufdi Zakaria will host an exhibition of handicrafts in collaboration with the Directorate of Culture of Tissemsilt;
- The film library of Algiers has scheduled, from 7 to 11 January, the screening of films in Tamazight, including "Leila et les autres" by Sidali Mazif, "Fadhma N'Soumer" and "Machaho" by Belkacem Hadjadj, "Juba II" by Mokrane Aït Saâda, "La Montagne de Baya" by Azzedine Meddour, "La Maison Jaune" by Amor Hakkar and "Mimezrane" by Ali Mouzaoui
