Sumer Shehadeh is a young Syrian novelist, whose first novel, "Fields of Corn", won the Tayeb Salih Prize in 2016. In that book, the author explored the psychological twists and turns of two families struggling with the hardships and horror of war.
After a second critically acclaimed book in 2019, "Abandon", he published "Yesterday's Houses" with the Cairo-based publishing house Dar El Karma. The book follows the fate of a Syrian family living in Dubai, and analyses the impact of the war on the two spouses. While the husband pursues his career in the Emirates, his wife cannot bear to be away from her war-torn country and returns to her hometown in Latakia.
