From 5 to 10 February, the fourth edition of Tuwaiq Sculpture will be held, a festival during which the streets of Riyadh will be transformed into an art gallery. The theme of this year's event is 'The Energy of Harmony' and it will be held mainly in Durrat Al-Riyadh.
Organised by London-based creative producer Marek Wolynski, the event will feature bespoke and original creations by the artists, using locally sourced stones from Tuwaiq, an area just outside the capital. A majority of the sculpture will be scattered around Riyadh, and it will also be possible for locals to see the sculptors in motion, working with the raw blocks of granite and sandstone.
For example, it will be possible to see the art piece "Harmony" by Saudi artist Wafa Alqunibit, who uses Arabic calligraphy in her art to present the ninety-nine names of God in the Islamic religion.
The festival also offers to the public workshops, debates, school visits and courses from beginner to intermediate level.
