The 2023 winners of the Tayeb Salih International Prize for Creative Writing

The Board of Directors of the Tayeb Salih International Prize for Creative Writing has announced the winning works of the thirteenth edition of the prize. The prize, sponsored by Zain Telecommunications, was established in memory of Sudanese novelist and short story writer Tayeb Salih.

This year, prizes were awarded in three categories: novel, collection of short stories and critical studies. The Personnality of the Year Award was given to Professor Ahmed Ibrahim Abu Shouk.

In the novel category, this year's winner is "الخروج من البئر" ( Out of the Well) by Egyptian author Alia Abdelmullah.

In the short story collection category, the first prize was awarded to "وشام النمور" (Tiger Tattoo) by Iraqi writer Haitham Hashim Taher.

The critical studies prizes went to Moroccan researcher Abdel Raheem al-Khayat (first), Egyptian Ahmed al-Saghir (second) and Sudanese researcher Bushra Khareef (third).

In each category, $15,000 went to the first prize, $10,000 to the second prize and $8,000 to the third prize.
