Jareesh and maqshush become Saudi national dishes.

The Saudi Culinary Arts Commission revealed on Wednesday that the wheat dish "jareesh" (هريس) has been selected as the Kingdom's national dish, while "maqshush" (مخشوش) has been named the country's national dessert.

Originating from the northern region, jareesh is made of slow-cooked cracked wheat with vegetables and tomato sauce. Lamb may be added.

Maqshush is made of buckwheat bites topped with ghee, honey, date molasses or sugar. It is often eaten in winter.
