The International Festival of Nomads

The town of M'hamid El Ghizlane, which used to be on the route of trans-Saharan trade caravans, hosts the eighteenth edition of the International Nomads' Festival from 29 April to 1 May, organised by the organisation called The Nomads of the World.

The festival aims to show the diversity and richness of nomadic culture. The festival offers several concerts with Lebanese diva Jahida Wehbi, Tuareg bluesman Ahmed Ag Kaedy, the band Africa Fusion (Senegal, Burkina Faso and Ghana), and chaâbi musician Youness Boulmani. Some Amazigh music performances are also planned.

On the cooking side, a workshop is organised, which includes learning how to make a sand bread (mella). A sand hockey competition is also on the programme, as well as a camel race.

Storytellers Pascaline Granjean, Nabila El Fahmy, Salif Berthé and others will share stories from the desert with music during the three-day festival.

Finally, a stand dedicated to craftsmen and producers from the southern region of Morocco gives them the opportunity to exhibit and market their products, and gain new customers.
