Moroccan cinema in Cannes

The 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, to be held from 16 to 27 May 2023, will present the premiere of the director's latest film, entitled "Les divorcées de Casablanca" (the divorced women of Casablanca), alongside "The Slave" by Abdelalih Jaouhari (nominated for the Tanit d'or at the Carthage Film Days in 2022) and "Last Round" by Mohamed Fekrane.

Synopsis of "Les divorcées de Casablanca": several women from different social backgrounds are in search of freedom and independence in a society which condemns divorce and single-parenthood.

Synopsis of "The Slave": "Brahim comes from nowhere. In the village where he arrives, he presents himself, to the great astonishment of the customers of the Café de la Place, as a slave who needs a master. 'I am a slave for sale,' he tells them. But, for these villagers, this is unacceptable! So they chase him away, throw him out, assault him."

Synopsis of "The Last Round": "Rachid is a young man who survives in Morocco by boxing in clandestine fights in order to save enough money to pay a smuggler, and to be able to cross the Straits of Gibraltar with his two friends."
