Around the southernmost point of the town of Muharraq, near Bahrain's capital, Manama, a pearl trail, inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2012, is in its final stages of renovation.
To date, 16 sites have been renovated, and Sheikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, chairwoman of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, said the rehabilitation of the Pearl Path should be completed by the end of 2022. The creation of the Institute of Pearls and Precious Stones of Bahrain (DANAT) in 2017 is also part of the cultural strategy of the kingdom which wishes to restore its cultural heritage in order to make it shine beyond its borders.
