Dubai, city of art?

Dubai Culture launches a new 2-million-dirham public art programme to transform the city into an open air gallery.

The idea is to transform public spaces into public art spaces, including sculptures, paintings, murals and installations.

The project is part of the Dubai 2040 urban plan, which aims at improving the quality of living for residents and strengthening Dubai's global competitiveness. Hala Badri, managing director of Dubai Culture, says the project intends to establish a unique cultural and artistic environment in Dubai.

Dubai Culture collaborates on the project with local cultural institutions such as Art Dubai, Tashkeel, Alserkal, Art Jameel and Akaas Visual Arts, which will invite all Emirati and local artists to present their ideas for site-specific art installations.

The first site planned is the Al Hudaiba Garden, overlooking the Etihad Museum.
