"Artistic centralisation in Lebanon is a major problem; the rest of the country is excluded and there are fewer outlets for local artists". - Caroline Hatem, from her interview in L'Orient-le-Jour.
The Network for Cultural Outreach project is taking various steps to decentralise the performing arts, since most performances now take place in Beirut. The project brings together three associations - Yazan, Yaraqa and Clown Me In - and creates work opportunities for local artists, particularly in theatre, dance, comedy shows, etc.
Network for Cultural Outreach puts in place practical strategies, such as a free online database for 40 towns and villages by October 2023, giving artists direct access to venues for hire, accommodation, etc. The shows on offer will be free of charge.
