"A Calling. From the Desert . To the Sea" by Murad Abu Eisheh.

Murad Abu Eisheh's latest short film takes up one of his favourite subjects: women. This is the director's fifth film, following "Tala'vision", which was shortlisted for the Oscars last year.

Synopsis: In order to avoid a destiny already written, twelve-year-old Yasmin and her older sister, Ahlam, escape and defy their father's authority.

The film's genesis goes back the director's studies, when he was at the university. The film was made with the help of photographer Philip Henze, with music by Nils Wrasse, and with production by Rand Abdelnour.

Some spectators are surprised that the location of the story remains unsaid. Here is Murad Abu Eisheh's response:

"I'm Jordanian, I live in Germany and I think it's due to the fact that I feel a bit of a world citizen (...) I'm very political and I really try to understand our region. Maybe it's due to the lack of trust in the current borders that exist in the Middle East and the problems they have generated. I don't really believe in this division of these borders which I find a bit artificial. Especially if you go for example to the north of Jordan, and you sit in this village and you realise that half of the people in this village, and their grandparents, are married to people from the neighbouring village on the other side of the border, but they are Syrian, and we are Jordanian..."
