"Visions du Réel" is a documentary film festival held annually in the Swiss town of Nyon. It has recently unveiled the official selection for its 54th edition, which will take place from 21 to 30 April 2023.
46 countries are represented in the selection, and 37 Swiss (co)productions are featured in all sections of the Festival.
Two films represent the MENA region:
- "Machtat" by Tunisian director Sonia Ben Slama. Synopsis: "In a working-class neighbourhood in the small town of Mahdia, Tunisia, time passes to the rhythm of harvests and weddings. Fatma and her daughters, Najeh and Waffeh, are different from the other women in the area. They swear, they smoke and they stand up to men: they are Machtat, wedding musicians."
- "An Owl, a Garden & the Writer" by Iranian director Sara Dolatabadi.
