A team of specialists from Cairo University and New Valley University discovered the bones in the city of Kharga. The dean of the Faculty of Science at Cairo University, Ahmed Abdel Sharif, said the turtle "lived during the time of the dinosaurs", and that the scientific discovery was the first of its kind in Egypt and North Africa.
