African Book Festival: a new event in Marrakech.

The first edition of the FLAM, from 9 to 13 February, has as its theme "Africa in all letters". It has been organised on the initiative of the association We Art Africa, with the idea of promoting African literature to a wide audience and encouraging exchanges between writers, publishers and readers.

The activities will be held at the cultural centre Les Étoiles in Jemaa el-Fna Square, on the initiative of Mahi Binebine, Fatimata Wane Sagna, Hanane Essaydi and Younès Ajarraï. Debates will be held, as well as conferences, round tables and workshops to discover the different facets of African literature and to exchange with renowned authors from all over Africa and its diasporas. The festival will also host book and art exhibitions, film screenings and musical concerts.

Some forty Arabic, French and English speaking authors from Africa and its diasporas will be present, such as: Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio, Achille Mbembé, Ken Bugul, Makenzy Orcel, Fouad Laroui, Fawzia Zouari, Mohammed Bennis,...
