The international event welcomes about twenty galleries, including eight from the African continent (four from Morocco), and twelve galleries that will participate in the fair for the first time.
Among the new Arab galleries coming to Marrakech, there are:
- Casablanca: L'Atelier 21, Loft Art Gallery and Galerie 38
- Marrakech: Galerie 127.
The Contemporary African Art Fair will host the works of more than 60 artists, including Maya Inès Touam (Algeria), Mariam Abouzid Souali (Morocco), and Omar Ba (Senegal). Other renowned artists will participate, including Youssef Nabil (Lebanon) and Mous Lamrabat (Morocco).
1-54 Marrakech will be accompanied by an ambitious programme of events in partnership with the local institutions of Jajjah by Hassan Hajjaj, Macaal (Al Maaden Museum of Contemporary African Art), the Museum of Ornamental Arts, Malhoun 2.0 and the Al Maqam Art Residence, ....
The art fair was launched in February 2018 with the aim of promoting artists connected to the African continent. 1-54 is the first and only international art fair dedicated to contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. It has three editions per year, in London, New York and Marrakech, as well as an ephemeral fair in Paris. Its name, 1-54, refers to the fifty-four countries located in the African continent.
