Beirut: "Beirut Octet" by Afaf Zurayk

The exhibition takes place at the Saleh Barakat gallery until February 26. The exhibition divides the gallery into eight spaces, describing the eight seasons of the artist's work. Afaf Zurayk's colour palette remains minimal and ethereal.

She offers a cathartic journey of painting, prose and poetry. This journey tells the story of a city and a generation which have been burdened by decades of tragic events, most poignantly illustrated in the horrific explosion of the port of Beirut on 4 August 2020. Through a narrative of being and witnessing, her art describes the conquest of trust, faith and resilience over deception, alienation and unhappiness.
